Marriage

Marriages take place in the Town Hall in Kristianstad. The ceremonies are performed in Swedish but can be performed in other languages as well. The ceremony is free of charge if it takes place in the Town Hall.

If you would like to get married in another place than the Town Hall the cost is 1000 SEK. If you don’t understand Swedish or English you can book an interpreter.

Booking and information

To make a booking you can use our self service which you find below E-service further down this page. The self service is in Swedish only. You can also contact us via phone or e-mail. Please leave your names, dates of birth, address and phone number. If you do not understand Swedish or English you need to contact us in advance so that we can book an interpreter for your ceremony.

Documents needed

To get married you need to apply for a Certificate of No Impediment at the Swedish Tax Office, in Swedish called ”Hindersprövning”. The two documents you then receive from the Tax Office should be sent to the Town Hall at least 2 weeks prior to the ceremony to avoid cancellation.

For questions about the documents, contact the Swedish Tax Agency

You have to show a ID card before the wedding ceremony.

Witnesses are required

Two witnesses are necessary during the ceremony. The witnesses must have turned 15 years of age and show a ID card before the wedding ceremony. We need their names and addresses when you submit us the “hindersprövning”. If the ceremony takes place on a weekday in the Town Hall we can provide witnesses.

After the ceremony

You will get a marriage certificate in Swedish and, if requested, one in English in connection to the ceremony. After the wedding ceremony your documents will be sent to the Tax Office for registration. If you require other documentation to verify your marriage in your country, besides the marriage certificate, please contact the Tax Office. With your marriage certificate you can also contact a Notarius Publicus for an official stamp.

Ceremony texts

When you book you ceremony let us now which ceremony text you would like. There is one short version and one longer version.

Short version

You have expressed a will to enter into marriage with each other.

Will you N.N. take N.N. to be your lawfully wedded wife/husband.

(Response: I do)

Will you N.N. take N.N. to be your lawfully wedded wife/husband.

(Response: I do)

I now pronounce you husband and wife/to be husbands/to be wives.

Long version

You have expressed a will to enter into marriage with each other. The foundation of marriage is built on love and trust. By entering into marriage you promise to respect and support each other.

As husband and wife/husbands/wives you are still two independent individuals who gain strength from each other in your relationship.

Since you have declared a will to enter into marriage I now ask:

Will you N.N. take N.N. to be your lawfully wedded wife/husband and to love her/him in sickness and in health?

(Response: I do)

Will you N.N. take N.N. to be your lawfully wedded wife/husband and to love her/him in sickness and in health?

(Response: I do)

(The couple exchange rings.)

I now pronounce you husband and wife/to be husbands/to be wives.

When you now move on in life and back to the struggles of every day life, remember the will to live together, the love and respect you have felt for each other in this moment and which led you to this day.

I would like to wish you joy and wellness in your marriage.
