The labour market

With almost 6,000 members of staff, the municipal administration departments constitute the largest single employer in the region. The second-largest is the Central Hospital, which employs 2,500 people. The seven largest food companies – including Swedish Meats, Spira and The Absolut Company – employ around 2,250 people.

In 2007, unemployment in the municipality was at 3 per cent. This was lower than the national level.

Within the municipality, there is a separate department – C4 Labour Market – which works with a variety of labour market measures. Around 30 projects are currently underway, meeting the needs of several hundred participants referred by labour exchange.
