Taxes and municipal finances

A burial fee of between SEK 0.10 and 0.54 – depending on the parish – is payable to the church. All members of the Church of Sweden also have to pay a church tax of between SEK 0.79 and 1.38.

The business of administrating the Municipality of Kristianstad costs around SEK 3.4 billion a year. Of this, SEK 2.2 billion is financed through taxes. Almost 45 per cent of the municipal budget is spent on schools and pre-school facilities and 25 per cent is earmarked for elderly and disabled people. Income support, individual and family welfare, and labour market measures account for a further 8 per cent.
