What is biogas?

Biogas is considered to be the most environmentally friendly vehicle fuel today. Unlike petrol and diesel, the combustion of biogas does not contribute to the enhanced greenhouse effect.

Biogas is a renewable fuel that consists of 97 % methane. It is produced through the digestion of organic waste and it is a part of a natural ecocycle. Right after the digestion process the methane content is only about 70 %. The rest of the gas is CO2, sulfurdioxide and other gases that need to be removed. The gas has to be upgraded to a 97 % methane content to be used as vehicle fuel.

In Kristianstad biogas is produced in three locations: in a digestion plant, in a waste water treatment plant and in an old landfill.
