Biogas as vehicle fuel
The use of biogas as a vehicle fuel is constantly increasing in Kristianstad municipality. All the 28 city buses run on biogas, and several of the buses crossing the municipality borders now run on biogas as well.
The envionmentally friendly choice
Biogas vehicles are very similar to petrol cars. A biogas car looks just like a regular car and it feels the same way to drive it. The difference is that biogas vehicles are more environmentally friendly to drive than a car run on fossil fuel.
Bi-fuel passenger cars have two separate tanks, one for biogas and one for petrol. If you run out of biogas it is easy to switch the engine over to petrol.
Biogas for public transport
Since CO2 emissions from transports is a big problem the municipality is aiming at increasing the use of biogas in the transport sector. The Public transport Company, Skånetrafiken, has introduced biogas in their fleet. All the 28 city buses run on biogas. From may 2011 their will also be a total of 39 biogas buses crossing the municipal borders, so called "regionsbuses".
The municipality has established a car pool with biogas cars and some private companies and households also use biogas vehicles.
