A rich cultural life

Kristianstad is home to a theatre, concert hall, chamber music hall, museum of local history, film museum, culture centre – Barbacka – and two art galleries.

Music has played a very prominent role in the region ever since the time when the city was a garrison town. The municipal music school is very active, and the Musik i Syd (Music in the South) association runs all its activities from Kristianstad.

Every summer, the city hosts its famous “Kristianstad Days” festival – a cornucopia of concerts and other events. In fact, the whole city bustles with activity day and night during the festival-week! There are also plenty of opportunities to hear great music during the autumn Jazz Festival, and at the subscription concerts organised by Musik i Syd in spring and autumn. The book festival – also in autumn – is another very popular event.

If you would like to hire any of our venues for an event, contact Musik i Syd for enquiries about the concert hall or chamber music hall, or call the municipal offices on +46 44 13 59 34 (fax: +46 44 21 24 93) to hire the theatre, which has 402 seats including 176 in the stalls.
