Water & sewage

C4 Teknik is responsible for water works and sewage treatment
plants in Kristianstad. We offer 38,000 scouts premium sewage disposal, by connecting the Jamboree Camp to the municipal sewage system.

Sewage is pumped to Kristianstad Sewage Treatment Plant, which processes 25,000 cubic meters of sewage a day. 52 percent of the received sewage originates from the food industry.

The four-step purifying process

In Kristianstad’s Central purifying plant, sewage is mechanically, chemically and biologically purified into clean water. The reduction grade is 99 percent for phosphorus and organic material, and nitrogen is reduced by 77 percent.

Step one in the purifying process is a set of mechanical filters, designed remove objects from the sewage. A following chemical process is based on adding iron chloride to the “mix”. The chemical reacts with phosphorus, hence building particles which are filtered out.

The following process is biological. The sewage is mixed with bacteria, which feed on organic material, hence removing it from the sewage. The bacteria also turn nitrogen into gas form, in a series of high-oxygen and low-oxygen pools. The nitrogen gas is harmless and released into the air.

Sewage is now clean water, and pumped to Lake Hammarsjön. The remaining sludge from the purifying process is used for the production of methane gas and fertilizer.

Protect the environment

Flushing anything other than faeces and tissue will damage the purifying plant. Wet wipes, sanitary pads, et cetera will clog up the mechanical filters, while solvents and medicine will damage the biological process. Damage on any of the processes will affect the purifying process, thus the environment.
